Expands property tax relief for veterans and their survivors in Maine.
This bill changes the property tax benefits for veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States for property tax years beginning on or after April 1, 2026. It removes the requirement that veterans must have served during a federally recognized war period to qualify for tax relief. Veterans now receive an exemption of up to $5,000 of the just value of the property. The exemption amount increases based on the veteran's service-connected disability rating, ranging from $10,000 to $50,000.
