Maine LD860 allows the Public Advocate to obtain information from public utilities, competitive electricity providers, and standard-offer service.

Maine LD860 mandates that competitive electricity providers furnish the Public Advocate with copies of reports and other information required to be filed with the Public Utilities Commission. The Public Advocate can make recommendations to the commission or the Legislature regarding the reasonableness of rates charged by public utilities or competitive electricity providers. The Office of the Public Advocate must submit a report by December 3, 2025, to the Joint Standing Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology about the rates and business practices of competitive electricity providers.
