An Act to Ensure Behavioral and Mental Health Services Are Available to Students by Providing Grants to Schools That Contract for Those Services

Complete·6/25/25

Establishes a grant program to provide funds to school administrative units for behavioral and mental health services for students.

The bill creates a grant program within the Department of Education to fund behavioral and mental health services for students. These grants are awarded to school administrative units based on their student population. Funds can only be used for services not covered by the MaineCare program and must not replace existing school staff. The funding amounts are $3,000 for units with 250 or fewer students, $6,000 for units with 251 to 500 students, and $9,000 for units with more than 500 students. The program starts with ongoing funding in fiscal year 2025-26.
