An Act to Allow the Sale of Polymer-coated Cookware That Is Authorized for Food Contact by the United States Food and Drug Administration

Failed·4/17/25
Tpdf Text

This bill permits the sale of polymer-coated cookware authorized by the FDA for food contact in Maine.

The bill amends the Maine Revised Statutes to allow the sale of cookware products with a cooking surface containing PFAS polytetrafluoroethylene, fluorinated ethylene propylene, or perfluoroalkoxy alkane, provided these products are authorized for food contact by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Previously, such polymer-coated cookware was excluded from being classified as a cookware product under Maine law. This change aligns the state's definition of cookware products with those approved by the FDA for food contact.
