Maine LD825 prohibits any intentional, large-scale intervention in Earth's natural systems, known as geoengineering. This includes stratospheric aerosol injection, weather modification techniques, excessive electromagnetic, radio frequency, or microwave radiation emissions, and harmful nuclear, biological, or chemical emissions. The Department of Environmental Protection is responsible for enforcing this prohibition. Violations are classified as a Class C crime, with fines of $500,000 per day of violation. The department encourages public reporting of suspected geoengineering activities.
