Limits free motor vehicle registrations for disabled veterans to one vehicle and requires reimbursement to municipalities for lost excise taxes.
This bill amends the law to allow the Secretary of State to issue a registration certificate and special designating plates for only one vehicle owned by a disabled veteran. The plates must indicate that the vehicle is owned by a disabled veteran. Municipalities must report the number of these registrations to the Secretary of State to determine the excise tax revenue lost from this exemption. The State Controller will then reimburse the municipalities based on this report.
