LD717

Maine LD717 amends the Maine Criminal Code to include costs of analyzing suspected illegal drugs in restitution for convicted drug traffickers.

Maine LD717 modifies the Maine Criminal Code to expand the definition of "critical investigation expense" to include the costs of analyzing suspected illegal drugs. This change applies when the defendant is convicted of trafficking a scheduled drug and the court finds that the conduct was motivated by profit. The bill seeks to ensure that victims of drug trafficking can be compensated for the full extent of their losses, including the costs associated with drug analysis.
