LD657

Designates broadband Internet access service and wireless access point technology as basic necessities under municipal general assistance law.

This bill amends the law governing municipal general assistance in Maine to include broadband Internet access service and wireless access point technology as basic necessities. These additions mean that municipalities must consider these services when providing general assistance to residents. The definition of "basic necessities" now encompasses food, water, clothing, shelter, fuel, electricity, medical services, drugs, telephone service for medical reasons, and the newly added broadband Internet access and wireless access point technology.
