An Act to Require the Approval of Superintendent Agreements Regarding Transfers of Students Between School Administrative Units

Failed·6/2/25
Tpdf Text

Requires superintendents' approval for student transfers between school administrative units in Maine.

This bill amends Maine law to require the superintendents of both the sending and receiving school administrative units to approve student transfers. Approval is contingent on the receiving unit operating a public school at the student's grade level and having adequate capacity. The student's parent or legal guardian is responsible for transportation. The commissioner and state board can review and decide on transfers, with the state board's decision being final. The student is considered a resident of the receiving unit for subsidy purposes.
