Tpdf Text

Maine LD592 proposes to study laws on endangering a child's welfare by increasing penalties for reckless violations.

Maine LD592 seeks to study laws regarding endangering the welfare of a child by enacting more serious penalties for reckless violations. If a person's reckless violation of the duty of care or protection results in serious bodily injury to a child, the crime is a Class C crime. If the child dies, the crime is a Class B crime. The bill amends the Maine Revised Statutes to include the culpable mental state element of recklessness in the violation of the duty.
