Maine LD582 mandates health insurance carriers to cover blood testing for PFAS as medically necessary.
Maine LD582 requires health insurance carriers to provide coverage for blood testing for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) if recommended by a provider as medically necessary. This Act applies to all health plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026. The Legislature finds that this requirement does not expand the State's essential health benefits or require cost defrayal by the State. The Act prohibits health plans from imposing cost-sharing requirements for these tests, except for those offered with a health savings account.
