Maine LD537 prohibits doxing of minors and authorizes civil action for damages.
Maine LD537 makes it illegal to engage in doxing when the target is a minor. Doxing is defined as the knowing disclosure of personal identifying information without consent, intended to cause harm. The bill allows family members, legal guardians, or representatives of the minor to bring a civil action for injunctive relief, actual damages, compensatory damages, punitive damages, or any combination of these remedies. The bill also provides for treble damages if the doxing is motivated by certain personal characteristics.
