LD513

Allows spouses of school board members to serve as stipend employees within the school board's jurisdiction.

This bill permits a school board to allow the spouse of a school board member to serve as a stipend employee. It mandates that the school board adopt a written policy on nepotism that discourages favoritism and political patronage, considers the needs of the school system, and ensures all qualified applicants have a fair and equal opportunity to be selected on merit. The policy must prioritize the best interest of students without restrictions based solely on family association. The provisions of this bill are set to be repealed on July 1, 2028.
