This bill amends ferry service regulations to require at least annual trips to Matinicus Isle and allows additional service by agreement.

This bill amends the law governing ferry service to Matinicus Isle, requiring the Department of Transportation to operate ferry routes between the mainland and Matinicus Isle at least annually. Additional service may be authorized by agreement between Matinicus Isle residents and the department. Ferry service may be provided by state-owned or privately contracted vessels, with the latter requiring an agreement with the State's collective bargaining agent. These ferry routes are designated as the "Maine State Ferry Service.
