LD429

Maine LD429 mandates hospitals to collect patient immigration status and seek federal reimbursement for asylum seeker care.

Maine LD429 requires hospitals to collect information on patients' immigration status, ensuring patients know this is voluntary and won't affect care. The bill defines "asylum seeker" and mandates hospitals to report aggregate care costs to the state annually. The state must then seek federal reimbursement for asylum seeker care costs and report these costs to the Governor and relevant legislative committee.
