Establishes a Conviction Integrity Unit in the Attorney General's Office to review convictions for evidence of actual innocence or misconduct.

This bill mandates the creation of a Conviction Integrity Unit within the Maine Attorney General's Office, separate from the Criminal Division. The unit's purpose is to review convictions obtained by the Attorney General's Office or any district attorney's office to determine if there is clear and convincing evidence of actual innocence. The unit can review convictions that suggest a plausible claim of actual innocence, evidence of a constitutional violation, prosecutorial misconduct, or facts or circumstances requiring a review in the interests of fairness or justice.
