Allows unaccompanied and emancipated minors in Maine to access their vital records at no cost.
This bill amends the Maine Revised Statutes to ensure that the state registrar provides vital records, such as birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates, to unaccompanied and emancipated minors free of charge. The state registrar must verify the identity and authority of any requester, including attorneys or agents, before releasing the records. This change aims to support the autonomy and rights of unaccompanied and emancipated minors by ensuring they can access essential documentation without financial barriers.
