Maine LD38 requires voters to present a photograph identification document when voting in person. Acceptable IDs include a driver's license, nondriver ID, U.S. passport, military ID, or a concealed handgun permit with a photo. College or university IDs are not accepted. If a voter's address on their ID differs from their registration, they must update their registration before voting. The bill also allows those without a valid photo ID to request a free special voter photo ID card from the Secretary of State, which is valid for voting purposes. This act takes effect January 1, 2026.
