Maine LD249 amends the salary and fee structure for nonsalaried medical examiners and medicolegal death investigators. It sets the Chief Medical Examiner's salary to be determined by the Governor. Nonsalaried medical examiners and death investigators are entitled to receive between $100 and $150 for inspections and views, with an additional $50 for visits to death scenes outside hospitals. The bill also authorizes the Chief Medical Examiner to cover any necessary expenses for their duties and establishes reimbursement rates for funeral establishments transporting bodies to Augusta.
