The group will review the history of the former State Board of Corrections, examine county jail management models in other states, and review historical jail regionalization efforts in Maine. The working group will submit a report with findings and recommendations to the joint standing committee of the Legislature having jurisdiction over corrections matters by December 1, 2027. The committee may submit legislation based on the report to the Second Regular Session of the 133rd Legislature.
