An Act to Increase County Jail Funding

Complete·4/14/26

Increases state funding for county jail operations and community programs in Maine.

This bill increases the annual state funding for the County Jail Operations Fund from $20,342,104 to $28,342,104, effective July 1, 2026. It mandates an annual increase of 4% thereafter. Additionally, the bill requires the state to appropriate an extra $5,000,000 for community programs and services. The fund distribution formula is adjusted to be based on the most recent previous state fiscal year for which data is available. Unexpended funds do not lapse but carry forward into subsequent fiscal years.
