Amends HIV testing consent laws to allow tests with general consent, not requiring specific informed consent.
This bill changes the consent requirements for HIV testing in Maine. It allows HIV tests to be performed with a patient's general consent, which means consent obtained without undue inducement or coercion, after informing the patient that an HIV test may be part of a medical procedure or test and that receiving the test is voluntary. The bill also removes the requirement for specific informed consent for repeated HIV testing by health care providers to monitor the course of an established infection.
