Tpdf Text

Maine LD1875 proposes a road use fee for electric vehicles to create equity in highway funding.

Maine LD1875 introduces a road use fee for electric vehicles to balance highway funding. Owners of battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles must report their vehicle's mileage annually. The fee is calculated at 1.0¢ per mile for battery electric vehicles and 0.5¢ per mile for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The fee is tied to the gasoline tax rate, which is 30.0¢ per gallon. Revenue from the electric vehicle road use fee is used to temporarily suspend the gasoline tax for an equivalent number of days. The Governor determines and announces the suspension dates.
