LD1873

Maine LD1873 mandates age verification for accessing online obscene content, prohibiting businesses from retaining personal data post-verification.

Maine LD1873 requires businesses to verify the age of individuals attempting to access obscene content on websites or software applications. The verification must be done through reasonable methods, such as government-issued identification or transactional data. Businesses cannot retain any identifying information after verifying age. The law exempts bona fide news broadcasts and public interest content. Violations can result in liability for damages, court costs, and attorney's fees, with the Attorney General also able to pursue actions for unfair or deceptive practices.
