LD1852

An Act to Promote Equitable Property Taxation by Reducing Valuation Based on Nearby Clean Energy Projects

Failed·6/5/25
Tpdf Text

Maine LD1852 requires assessors to lower property values for properties near solar or wind energy developments.

Maine LD1852 amends property tax valuation rules to require assessors to reduce the value of improved real property that borders solar energy developments or grid-scale wind energy developments. This adjustment takes effect for property tax years starting April 1, 2026. The bill defines "solar energy development" as a facility using ground-mounted solar arrays to generate electricity and "grid-scale wind energy development" as a facility using wind turbines to generate electricity. The reduction in property value is due to the property's proximity to these energy developments.
