LD1780

Allows defendants to subpoena statements from non-defendant witnesses in criminal proceedings.

This bill allows a defendant in a criminal proceeding to request a statement from a non-defendant witness. The defendant must serve a written notice of the statement and a subpoena to the witness and the prosecution. The bill outlines procedures for taking the statement, including hybrid means like telephone or remote electronic methods. It also provides remedies for witnesses who fail to appear or terminate the statement, including barring them from future testimony.
