LD1697

Increases penalties for improper pesticide use in Maine and allows for civil suits if pesticide migration affects multiple properties.

This bill increases the maximum fine for a violation of Maine's laws and rules governing pesticides from $1,500 to $25,000, with a higher fine of $50,000 if the violator benefited substantially. Subsequent violations carry a maximum fine of $75,000. The bill also allows for separate civil suits against violators if pesticide migration through soil or bedrock affects more than one property. Additionally, it mandates the restoration of affected property and replacement of vegetation as penalties for violations, alongside monetary fines.
