LD168

An Act to Improve Safety in Public Schools by Requiring Silent Electronic Notification Systems in Classrooms

Failed·5/14/25
Tpdf Text

Maine LD168 mandates silent electronic notification systems in classrooms of public schools with enrolled students.

Maine LD168, failed as of May 14, 2025, would require public elementary and secondary schools enrolling students to install silent electronic notification systems in each classroom. These systems, when manually activated, would automatically notify the E-9-1-1 system, school security personnel, local law enforcement agencies, and parents who subscribe to be notified of life-threatening or emergency situations. The Department of Education may adopt rules to implement this requirement.
