LD1678

Allocates one commercial menhaden fishing license per specified island community in Maine to residents of those communities.

This bill mandates the allocation of one commercial menhaden fishing license per specified island community in Maine to residents of those communities. The Commissioner of Marine Resources is tasked with implementing and administering this allocation, including verifying residency and facilitating license issuance. Licenses cannot be transferred to residents of other island communities. If a license remains unissued for consecutive years, it may be reallocated to another community. The bill aims to support year-round residency in these island communities.
