An Act to Establish an Employer Tax Credit for Qualifying Child Care Costs

Failed·4/29/26
Tpdf Text

Establishes a tax credit for employers in Maine who pay for or provide child care services for their employees' children.

The bill repeals the existing employer-assisted day care tax credit program and introduces a new tax credit for employers in Maine. Employers can receive a refundable credit of up to $8,000 per child or a total of $80,000 annually for child care expenses. The credit is subject to ongoing legislative review starting in 2030. The credit is available for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2026.
