Maine LD1492 extends paid overtime protections to teachers, excluding them from overtime wage violation exemptions.
Maine LD1492 amends state law to ensure teachers receive the same remedies for overtime wage violations as regular workers. It exempts teachers from the public employee exemption to entitlement to paid overtime. This means teachers are no longer excluded from overtime wage recovery and can seek compensatory time for overtime hours worked. The bill also specifies that actions for unpaid overtime wages must be brought within a certain period after the cause of action accrued.
