Tax credit of up to $18,000 for attorneys practicing in underserved areas of Maine.

This bill provides a tax credit of up to $18,000 per year for attorneys who start practicing law in underserved areas of Maine for at least three years. The Maine Commission on Public Defense Services identifies these underserved areas. The credit can be claimed in the first year the attorney meets the eligibility criteria and in subsequent years. The commission must review the credit's effectiveness annually and report to the Legislature.
