This bill modifies public access to records of disciplinary actions for public employees in Maine.
This bill changes the confidentiality rules for records of disciplinary actions taken against public employees in Maine. Currently, the final written decisions related to disciplinary actions are not confidential. Under the bill, only disciplinary actions that impose a financial disadvantage, such as termination, demotion, or suspension without pay, may become public. The employee's name must be removed from the final written decision and kept confidential. If the employee discloses their identity as the subject of the decision, the entire report becomes public.
