Maine LD148 would change the State Auditor election process to a statewide popular vote starting in 2028.

Maine LD148 amends the Maine Revised Statutes to change the election process for the State Auditor. Currently, the State Auditor is elected by the Legislature. Starting in 2028, the State Auditor will be elected by popular vote in the same manner as the Governor. The bill also includes provisions for filling vacancies and qualifications for the office.
