This bill allows schools in Maine to be excused from making up missed instructional days during a declared state of emergency.
This bill requires the Commissioner of Education to exempt a school from making up missed instructional days if the school is located in an area where the Governor has declared a state of emergency and the school was unable to operate due to the emergency. The Department of Education must amend its rules to provide an expedited process for this exemption and clarify that schools requesting the exemption may not be required to submit a waiver application.
