Failed·4/8/25
Tpdf Text

Authorizes the Secretary of State to designate law enforcement officers to investigate election law violations.

This bill amends Maine law to require the Secretary of State to designate sworn law enforcement officers employed by the Department of the Secretary of State to investigate alleged violations of the election laws. It also mandates the Attorney General to designate a Deputy Attorney General or an Assistant Attorney General to assist in these investigations. This change does not affect the authority of district attorneys to investigate and prosecute election law violations.
