Maine LD1337 modifies the Maine Human Rights Act by exempting privately owned and operated facilities that provide emergency shelter or temporary residence for women in reasonable fear of their safety from the definition of "place of public accommodation." It also ensures that provisions in the Maine Human Rights Act governing unlawful educational discrimination do not affect the rights of female athletes under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.
