LD1326

An Act to Protect the Drinking Water for Consumers of Certain Water Systems by Establishing Maximum Contaminant Levels for Certain Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances

Complete·6/12/25

Establishes maximum contaminant levels for perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances in Maine drinking water.

This bill sets maximum contaminant levels for specific perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Maine drinking water. It mandates monitoring by community and nontransient, noncommunity water systems starting January 1, 2026. If PFAS levels exceed 50% of the maximum contaminant levels, systems must sample every three months until levels are below the threshold. Beginning January 1, 2029, systems must treat PFAS contaminants exceeding specified levels and notify consumers.
