An Act to Amend the Election Recount Process

Failed·4/30/25
Tpdf Text

Amends Maine's election recount process by reducing the required deposit for a recount and including payroll costs in the actual recount cost.

This bill modifies Maine's election recount process by halving the vote percentage difference or vote count needed to determine the deposit required for a recount. It also includes payroll costs for state workers in the actual cost of the recount, which the requesting candidate must pay. If the deposit paid is more than the actual cost, the overpayment is refunded to the candidate. If the actual cost exceeds the deposit, the candidate must pay the difference.
