Maine LD1285 bans postsecondary institutions from using legacy or donor preferences in admissions.
Maine LD1285 prohibits postsecondary educational institutions from considering legacy preferences or donor preferences in admissions. Legacy preferences favor applicants with family ties to graduates, while donor preferences favor those with family ties to financial supporters. The bill allows institutions to collect data on familial relationships but not to use them in admissions decisions. It also permits institutions to consider how these relationships affected an applicant's life experience.
