Maine LD1273 repeals the mandatory paid family and medical leave program and establishes a voluntary program for employers and employees.

Maine LD1273 repeals the existing mandatory paid family and medical leave benefits program and establishes a new voluntary program. Employers can choose to offer coverage at no cost or on a contributory or partially contributory basis. The program allows employees to receive 60% of their average weekly wage, up to a maximum amount based on the cap on wages eligible for social security benefits, for up to weeks per year. The voluntary program applies to employers with or more employees and allows individual employees to purchase coverage if their employers do not participate.
