LD1218

County commissioners in Maine can switch from the Maine Public Employees Retirement System to the Legislative Retirement Program.

This bill allows county commissioners in Maine who are members of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System and have previously served in the Legislature to switch to the Legislative Retirement Program. It mandates that all past contributions be transferred to the new program, and future contributions must be directed to it. The county commissioner must submit a written election to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System to make this switch. The bill also ensures that service as a county commissioner is counted as creditable service under the Legislative Retirement Program.
