This bill amends the approval process for hydropower projects in Maine, focusing on environmental and economic considerations.

This bill modifies the Maine Department of Environmental Protection's approval process for hydropower projects, emphasizing environmental and economic factors. It mandates the department to consider the project's impact on the state's renewable energy goals, decarbonization, and economic development. The department must also weigh these factors against the project's effect on wildlife habitat and aquatic life. The bill allows for temporary terms and conditions on project approval but prohibits permanent changes to historic water levels or flows.
