LD1181

Municipalities can regulate short-term rentals by assigning land use codes.

This bill amends the Maine Revised Statutes to allow municipalities to establish regulations for short-term rental units. It permits municipalities to require the municipal assessor to assign a land use code to a short-term rental unit, designating it as either commercial or residential in use. A "short-term rental unit" is defined as living quarters offered for rental through a transient rental platform. "Commercial in use" refers to units not claimed as the primary residence of the owner, while "residential in use" refers to units claimed as the primary residence.
