LD1141

Maine LD1141 mandates state institutions to procure at least 30% of their food from Maine producers by 2030.

Maine LD1141 revises state policy to require, rather than encourage, state institutions to procure Maine foods and food products. The bill mandates the Commissioner of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry to implement a procurement program that centralizes food purchases to stabilize budgets. It defines "opportunity buying" as purchasing food at significant discounts before it becomes unavailable. The program aims to improve food quality and reduce costs for state institutions.
