LD1042

Maine LD1042 requires all children under 13 to wear Coast Guard-approved flotation devices on recreational watercraft.

Maine LD1042 amends the state's laws to mandate that all children under 13 years of age wear United States Coast Guard-approved personal flotation devices while on board a watercraft used for recreational purposes. This applies regardless of whether the watercraft is in motion. The law includes an exception for canoes owned by youth camps and log rafts under specific conditions. Violators face civil penalties and, after multiple adjudications within five years, a Class E crime.
