Ment Text

Louisiana SB88 proposes a constitutional amendment to allow local parish governing authorities to increase the homestead exemption.

Louisiana SB88 proposes a constitutional amendment to authorize local parish governing authorities to increase the homestead exemption by up to $22,500. This additional exemption applies to property already receiving the homestead exemption. The amendment requires the parish governing authority to approve the additional exemption. It also mandates that any decrease in ad valorem tax revenue due to the exemption must be absorbed by the taxing authority, without increasing tax liability for other taxpayers.
