Louisiana SB502 amends existing law to define "sugarcane bagasse biomass" as the solid, fibrous material left after extracting liquid from sugarcane stalks. The bill prohibits local governments from enacting or enforcing ordinances that restrict the storage of this biomass if it is stored according to a best management practice plan approved by the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and provided to the Department of Environmental Quality. Effective August 1, 2026.
