SB480

Provides for archorage in certain waterways with fishing gear restriction. (8/1/26)

Chamber Passed·5/25/26

Louisiana SB480 regulates the use of butterfly and bottom nets in Oyster Bayou, allowing them only when suspended from a motor-propelled boat.

Louisiana SB480 amends existing law to allow the use of butterfly and bottom nets in Oyster Bayou, between Atchafalaya Bay and Terrebonne Bay, only when suspended from a motor-propelled boat that is underway. The law prohibits the use of any anchor or weight to secure the net or any object to the shoreline. This change retains the current law's restrictions on using such nets from unmanned boats or vessels, floating platforms, pontoons, or barges.
