SB470

Louisiana SB470 mandates pregnancy tests for women in custody and considers pregnancy at sentencing.

Louisiana SB470 requires a pregnancy test for any woman arrested and taken into custody at state and local correctional facilities. The bill also mandates that courts consider pregnancy at sentencing and may suspend sentences for pregnant defendants eligible for probation. It allows courts to require participation in prenatal care, substance use disorder treatment, and other programs as conditions of probation. The Louisiana Department of Health must maintain a list of available programs for courts.
